Butler County Jail Roster Overview
The official Butler County inmate roster is published by the Butler County Sheriff's Office on its Detention Division page. It is a list of dated PDF files under the inmate roster heading. During research, the page listed roster dates in June 2026 and late May 2026, and the inspected PDF was titled Jail Population Report. That format matters. A reader does not enter a name into a county search form. The usual search method is to open the newest PDF and use the browser or PDF find tool for a last name.
The roster is tied to the Butler County Adult Detention Facility, the county jail operated by the sheriff. The county jail is the right place to check for recent arrests, pretrial custody, local jail sentences, and many outside-agency holds. It is not the right tool for a sentenced Kansas prison resident at El Dorado Correctional Facility or another KDOC prison. Once a person is sentenced and transferred to Kansas Department of Corrections custody, the search path changes to KASPER.
The sheriff's roster is useful because it is direct and free, but it is not a complete booking record. The inspected Butler County inmate record report did not show booking numbers, booking dates, birth dates, housing units, court dates, case numbers, or mugshots. Those gaps are the reason direct jail contact, Kansas VINE, KORA requests, court lookup, KASPER, BOP, and ICE tools all remain part of a careful custody search.
The county's roster source can be viewed on the sheriff detention roster page.
The screenshot shows why Butler County inmate records require a PDF search workflow instead of a name-field roster search.
Use the Butler County Inmate Roster
Start with the newest roster date. The public PDF is a point-in-time jail population report, so the timestamp on the document is just as important as the name line. A person arrested after the report was generated may not appear yet. A person who was released, transferred, or booked under a status not captured in the report may also be absent. For urgent custody checks, call the detention facility instead of relying only on the PDF.
- Open the sheriff's Detention Division roster page and choose the newest roster date.
- Use PDF find for the last name first. If the name is common, check first name and sex against the visible rows.
- Read all lines tied to the person. One Butler County inmate can have more than one charge, hold, or bond line.
- Check the PDF timestamp before treating the record as current. Older roster dates are context, not proof of present custody.
- Call the Butler County Adult Detention Facility at 316-322-4160 when custody, bond, release, or transfer status needs confirmation.
The sheriff also has an Apple App Store listing for a Butler County Sheriff's Office app. Review snippets mention inmates and commissary money, but the source was not enough to promise app-only roster data. Treat the app as a supplemental channel and verify any custody detail with the jail or the official roster source.
Butler County Roster Fields
Butler County does not publish a searchable roster portal with name boxes, filters, sort buttons, pagination, or inmate profile links. The roster is a report file. That makes the visible fields narrower than many vendor jail systems, but it also makes the field list easy to read once the PDF is open.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Roster date links | Link list | No | Dated PDF links on the sheriff detention page. |
| Booking Inmate Housed Flag | PDF column | Not applicable | Observed value was Yes, showing the person as housed on that report. |
| Last Name | PDF column | Not applicable | Use PDF find to search by last name. |
| First Name | PDF column | Not applicable | Use with last name to separate similar names. |
| Sex | PDF column | Not applicable | Observed values included Male and Female. |
| Charge or Hold Description | PDF column | Not applicable | Plain-language labels such as probation violation, failure to appear, or outside-agency hold. |
| Bond Set Amount | PDF column | Not applicable | Dollar amounts appear by line when present. |
Note: A missing name on one roster date is not the same as a confirmed release.
Butler County Inmate Record Details
The Butler County jail roster does not open a profile page. It is still an inmate record source because it shows who is listed in jail custody on that report and what charge or hold labels are visible. Bond amounts can appear beside individual lines, but the first amount on the page should not be treated as the total amount needed for release. Holds from another county, another agency, or another state can change whether a person can leave even after a local bond is paid.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Housed flag | Whether the person is listed as housed in the Butler County report. |
| Name | Last name and first name. Middle names were not shown in the extracted roster text. |
| Sex | Male or female as listed in the report. |
| Charge or hold | Plain-language charge, warrant, probation, bond revocation, or hold description when present. |
| Bond amount | Amount tied to a visible line, subject to court orders and other holds. |
| Not shown | Mugshot, DOB, booking date, booking number, case number, court date, housing unit, and release date. |
For booking photos, the public PDF is not enough. The county-specific booking-photo limits are covered on the Butler County jail mugshots page.
Butler County Jail Contact
The main custody contact is the Butler County Adult Detention Facility. The county detention page lists the jail as a 230-bed adult detention facility that opened in January 2003 and houses Butler County detainees plus persons held for U.S. Marshals, immigration authorities, cities, and other law enforcement agencies. Sheriff Monty Hughey is named on official county sheriff pages as the elected sheriff, while the county detention page lists the detention division administrator as Larry Reynolds.

Butler County Booking Process
Official county pages do not publish a detailed booking workflow, but the available sources support the practical path. After arrest, a person may be brought to the Butler County Adult Detention Facility for intake. Jail staff confirm identity, screen for warrants and holds, inventory property, complete medical screening, and classify the person for custody. The county says the jail has an on-site staffed medical unit, and Kansas law allows medical clearance before some ill, injured, unconscious, or impaired prisoners are received into jail custody.
Booking is not the same as a filed court case. The roster may show arrest labels, warrant holds, probation violations, failures to appear, or outside-agency holds. The Butler County Attorney decides whether formal charges are filed in district court. Once charges are filed, the court record becomes the better source for case number, hearings, charging documents, and disposition. For that path, use court records after a jail arrest rather than relying only on the custody report.
- Booking
- The administrative entry into jail custody after arrest or transfer.
- Detainer
- A request from another agency to keep or transfer the person.
- PR bond
- Personal recognizance release based on a promise to appear.
- No-bond hold
- A custody status that requires court or agency action before release.
Butler County KORA Records
When the public roster does not show enough detail, use the sheriff's Kansas Open Records Act process. The sheriff's KORA policy identifies Lindsey Collins, Butler County Sheriff's Office Records Clerk, as the designated custodian. Requests received after 5:00 p.m. are logged and processed the next business day. The policy also describes costs for larger requests, including paper records, mailing, faxing, digital media, and staff time.
KORA does not make every jail or law-enforcement record open without limits. K.S.A. 45-220 governs public-record request procedures, and K.S.A. 45-221 lists records that are not required to be disclosed. A practical request should identify the person's name, approximate arrest or booking date, record type, and desired format. Ask for open portions to be separated from any closed material.
| Request Type | Known Butler County Detail |
|---|---|
| Small involved-party request | One qualifying request in a 12-month period may be free if under one hour or fewer than 25 pages. |
| Paper records | Sheriff policy lists $5 per record for larger requests; county form also lists photocopy fees. |
| Digital images or media | The sheriff policy lists $25 per disc for audio, video, or digital images above the free threshold. |
| Staff time | Clerical, deputy, IT, or actual-cost rates may apply based on work required. |
Butler County Inmate Visitation
Butler County phone and video visitation are handled through Securus. The county's official visitation page says on-site video visits occur in the Detention Facility lobby. Visits can be scheduled at a lobby kiosk during regular lobby hours or from home through the Securus scheduler. Remote visits require an internet-connected computer and webcam. The official text did not publish a local day-by-day public schedule in the research material, so the current Securus schedule and jail rules should be checked before a visit is planned.
| Visit Type | Vendor or Location | How to Schedule |
|---|---|---|
| On-site video | Securus in the detention facility lobby | Lobby kiosk or Securus online scheduler. |
| Remote video | Securus at-home video visit | Securus online scheduling with computer and webcam. |
| Professional visit | Facility contact required | Research snippet indicated weekday access may exist, but rules must be verified with the jail. |
The county's phone and video visitation page identifies Securus as the service provider.
The Securus page is the better source for visit scheduling than the roster PDF, which does not list visit times.
Butler County Inmate Funds
Commissary and banking details come from the county's official inmate commissary page. Butler County identifies CBM Managed Services, JailATM, and Lockdown in the commissary process. Friends and family can use JailATM for deposits and commissary purchases, while inmates order from available funds. The research found a current purchase limit of $25.00 per inmate per order period, regardless of how many people try to buy for that inmate.
| Service | Vendor | Key Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Deposits | JailATM or lobby deposit ATM | Deposit fees may apply. |
| Commissary | CBM Managed Services through JailATM and Lockdown | Current purchase limit is $25.00 per inmate per order period. |
| Processing | CBM and JailATM | Prior week's orders are processed Tuesday and delivered Thursday. |
| JailATM | Fees apply, and the facility can block unwanted email arrangements. |
The official commissary and banking page is the source for CBM, JailATM, Lockdown, and order limits.
Confirm the person is still in Butler County custody before sending funds, because transfers can change the correct vendor.
Butler County Custody Lookup Paths
Butler County's jail can house local detainees, city prisoners, U.S. Marshals prisoners, and immigration-related detainees, but the lookup path depends on who has legal custody and where the person is in the case. Kansas VINE is useful for county-jail custody notifications. KASPER is for KDOC custody, including sentenced residents at El Dorado Correctional Facility. BOP and ICE tools are separate from the sheriff's roster.
| Custody Type | Where to Look | Best Use |
|---|---|---|
| Butler County jail custody | Sheriff dated roster PDFs or 316-322-4160 | Recent arrest, local jail sentence, bond, and current jail status. |
| County-jail notifications | Kansas VINELink | Custody-change alerts for county jail offenders. |
| Sentenced Kansas prison custody | KDOC KASPER | State prison, parole, post-release, KDOC number, and prison location. |
| Sentenced federal custody | BOP inmate locator | Federal inmates from 1982 to present. |
| Immigration custody | ICE ODLS | A-number or biographic lookup for ICE detainees. |
The state prison in Butler County is El Dorado Correctional Facility, but it is a KDOC facility and is not searched through the county jail roster. Note: Kansas VINE does not include KDOC prison residents.
Check Butler County Inmate Records
For a current Butler County jail inmate, use the newest sheriff roster PDF and then confirm urgent details with the detention facility. For a sentenced state prisoner, use KASPER. For a federal or immigration hold, use the federal locator that matches the custody type. For older booking documents, photos, incident records, or arrest reports, use the sheriff's KORA process and expect exemptions or fees where Kansas law allows them.
